YL International 2012 Australia 4 - 7th May 2012 (actual dates to be confirmed) Australia invites all YLs and their OMs to join us for the 2012 YL International Meet on 4th to 7th of May 2012 in Adelaide. Plans are progressing but there is not a lot definite. Our current thinking is that the main part of the meet will be in the Glenelg area which is close to the airport and beach, has a variety of levels of accommodation to suit all budgets very close together and is only a 20 minute tram ride from the city of Adelaide. Have a look at this website for more information www.glenelgsa.com.au. Some of the potential activities are visits to Port Adelaide, Barossa Valley, a wild life park or Hahndorf. Port Adelaide is rich in diversity of places to see and do, including markets, museums and a short cruise on the river where the dolphins might come out to play. The Barossa Valley is a wine growing area. I have been looking at a progressive lunch at several wineries and a visit to the whispering wall. As most wildlife here are nocturnal and very shy, the only way to see them is at one of our great wildlife parks. Hahndorf is a small village in the Adelaide Hills with a strong German flavour which has many little shops and is always an interesting place to visit. An optional tour at the end of the meet will be a trip on the Ghan Railway to Alice Springs and on to Darwin. Never heard of the Ghan – have a look at this website: http://www.gsr.com.au. A 5-night stop in Alice Springs will give you the chance to go out to Uluru, once known as Ayers Rock, Kata Tjuta, otherwise known as the Olgas and Kings Canyon. Then back on the train to Darwin with a stop at Katherine Gorge. At least one day of sightseeing in Darwin will be organised. This trip will take about a week to ten days. Further options for those who want to make the most of their long flights to Australia will be offered for you to book yourself.
